Do you ever want to just stop the World and all its
demands?

We may not be able to stop the spin of the Earth, traffic whizzing by, the pesky monthly zit, or the demands of daily responsibilities...

But, what if we COULD take a time-out from our busy lives to rejuvenate?

Even if for only one hour per month.

Imagine affordable luxury.

Imagine soothing decor, a candle lit room, and a light scent of massage oil.

Imagine laying on a squishy, heated table, your eyes shut, and your body melting to the melodious rhythm of ocean waves.

Imagine hearing your massage therapist-goddess warming oil in her hands just before she slides them accross your stressed out neck and shoulders.

Oh yeah, now we're talkin'...

You've done your best to make it all work...and you're pooped!

 I get it.

We live in a society that has many demands which creates even more 'needs' that we are expected to satisfy. Family, job, career, school, church, volunteerism, you name it. The list goes on and on.

So, where do WE fit into the equation? Who takes care of US...our sanity, peace of mind, and overall  health? Our feeling of relaxation and serenity? What about our emotional, spiritual, and physical 'needs'?!

Well, WE do...dang it! And lucky for us, there's an answer.

If you're like me, you have probably tried to find relief   through  medication, alcohol, drugs, over-eating sugary and fried foods, partying, retail-therapy, smoking, veggin' out on the couch watching TV or movies, or at  a local pub crawl or two. And, while all of those things seemed effective in the moment, they didn't last or promote  health and usually made me feel worse physically, spiritually, emotionally, and financially.

Afterall, have you ever spent too much money and time in the pursuit of relaxation or chillin' out just to find that you felt guilty for doing it?

Yeah, me too!

I want something different. Something that will give me more bang for my buck and have lasting, positive effects that promote a healthy lifestyle. That way I COULD be there for my family, my j.o.b, and pay my bills without harming myself  doing it!

As I began receiving regular massages, I noticed that I was slower to anger, slower to get stressed out, and slower to grab a cookie. I’m now quicker to forgive, more willing  to offer a helping hand, and more prone to speak kind words. My middle finger has even lost its luster while driving!

I find that I am pain free for as long as a week after an hour long massage! Even now, the pain I had in a particular area has never returned.
And, cooler than that: my cravings for substances like sugar, drugs, and alcohol  that I once used to reduce my stress have turned into cravings for incense, candles, water, nourishing food, positive thought, spiritual readings, energy work, meditation and being massaged to  the sounds of groovy Native American chants and Spanish guitar riffs.

Ok, so that may sound a little 'woo-woo' to some and not the preferred outcome for most. But, this is what has happened for me. Having said that, just like everyone is different, the outcomes are as well.

And, remember, some changes are quick, some are slow.

Imagine a garden hose laying in the back yard all winter long. It's there, holding stagnant water from late autumn. It has been a breeding ground for bacteria and insects, accumulating dirt, bug carcasses, leaves, and Lord knows what else, in it. That's our body before massage...

Ah, then spring time comes...the fresh waters are flowing from the faucet. What comes out first? Of course, the brown-murky-buggy-once stagnant-bacteria laden-leafy stuff does. If we let the water run long enough, we will see it clear and cool. And, maybe it will look so good we will even drink  it!

So, there you have it...the more mucky-muck we have built up, the more clear water we need to get it out.

Ahhh...massage...the Manna for the Soul...the ' faucet' or vehicle that will help our waters  run clear.

I know I deserve to feel good and my job IS  to feel good.

I believe that to be true for you, too!

Un-poop yourself with an hour long massage! Go ahead, you deserve it!

Many, many blessings, beautiful Spirit! ~  Desiree'

OMG!

 Stress can make us fluffy!

 Who knew?!

This is how:

(about.com)

While cortisol is an important and helpful part of the body’s response to stress, it’s important that the body’s relaxation response to be activated so the body’s functions can return to normal following a stressful event. Unfortunately, in our current high-stress culture, the body’s stress response is activated so often that the body doesn’t always have a chance to return to normal, resulting in a state of chronic stress.

Higher and more prolonged levels of cortisol in the bloodstream (like those associated with chronic stress) have been shown to have negative effects, such as:

  • Impaired cognitive performance
  • Suppressed thyroid function
  • Blood sugar imbalances such as hyperglycemia
  • Decreased bone density
  • Decrease in muscle tissue
  • Higher blood pressure
  • Lowered immunity and inflammatory responses in the body, slowed wound healing, and other health consequences
  • Increased abdominal fat, which is associated with a greater amount of health problems than fat deposited in other areas of the body. Some of the health problems associated with increased stomach fat are heart attacks, strokes, the development of metabolic syndrome, higher levels of “bad” cholesterol (LDL) and lower levels of “good” cholesterol (HDL), which can lead to other health problems!

To keep cortisol levels healthy and under control, the body’s relaxation response should be activated after the fight or flight response occurs. You can learn to relax your body with various stress management techniques, and you can make lifestyle changes in order to keep your body from reacting to stress in the first place. The following have been found by many to be very helpful in relaxing the body and mind, aiding the body in maintaining healthy cortisol levels:

" I now have had 3 massages with Desiree. I love her work. She listens to my needs. This is the only time I allow myself to just receive. The smell of the room is so relaxing and the music I can get lost in. However it is Desiree's healing hands that has worked so well for me. I have chosen to schedule a massage every other week. Without a doubt it is the best medicine I can give myself. I tell everyone I know about her. I am blessed to know her and her hands. " Ellen T., Salem
